The proposed development is located at 283-293 Logan Reserve Road, Logan Reserve, and is being spearheaded by the Queensland Nepalese Cultural Centre Inc. Situated within a Low Density Residential Zone, the project site is subject to various planning considerations, including the Logan Planning Scheme’s codes for acid sulfate soils and flood hazards. To ensure environmental protection, the rear portion of the property will remain vegetated, and a dedicated ramp will be constructed to provide maintenance access to the western area of the site.
The development application seeks a Material Change of Use to establish a multi-purpose facility functioning as both a Place of Worship and a Community Use hub. This project aims to create a dedicated cultural and religious home for the Queensland Nepalese community. The proposal includes significant site improvements, with an estimated 4,500 square meters of new impervious area to be added to support the facility’s requirements.
Architectural and structural plans for the site focus on creating a functional community space while adhering to local boundary and parking regulations. The development will feature a primary building designed to accommodate religious services and cultural gatherings, supported by on-site vehicle parking to meet the needs of congregants and visitors. Additionally, the site design incorporates specific access routes to manage traffic flow and ensure the facility integrates safely with the existing road network on Logan Reserve Road.
To move forward, the applicant is seeking a Development Permit for the Material Change of Use, which requires a detailed code assessment under the Planning Act 2016. The permissions applied for include compliance with the Service, Access, and Parking Code, as well as necessary environmental overlays. While the project adds to the local infrastructure, it does not currently involve the construction or dedication of trunk works, focusing instead on the internal development of the cultural centre.
